About the profession
A hard surface artist is a professional who is skilled in solid modeling, understands object design, and is able to conceive and create 3D sci-fi concepts. Unlike conventional 3D artists, hard surface artists create human-made objects, such as machinery or weapons, from plasma guns to pre-war vehicles. Such specialists are in demand in movies, gamemade or advertising, but they need to be able to create bright, memorable images according to the rules of object design.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
01
Coming up with sci-fi-3D concepts.
From scratch and with universal design principles in mind.
02
Work in programs
In ZBrush, Fusion 360, and Marvelous Designer.
03
Create expressive models of weapons
For example, cannons, mines, grenades, turrets, and more.

To come up with
memorable images
With a statement silhouette, contrasting shapes and layered pieces.
TRAINING PROGRAM
We emphasize practice, so during the course you'll learn how to work from the pipelines of real studios, assemble a cool portfolio, and get constructive feedback.
Introductory unit
You will familiarize yourself with the structure of the course, learn how to take feedback and communicate with your colleagues, and then you will be waiting for 100 good works on Artstation, to which you will give your feedback - you will train your perspicacity.
- About the course
- The quest for 100 year-round papers on Artstation
Unit 1. Technical
Start working in ZBrush, Fusion 360 and Blender. Learn hotkeys, brushes, masks and modifiers. Take apart teacher models and create your own.
- ZBrush - learn everything you need to quickly "sketch" your idea
- Fusion 360 - get acquainted with the program, basic tools and principles of their work.
- Blender - get acquainted with the Blender toolkit and learn the tricks of working in it.
Project Work 1:
- you're gonna do a weapons concept.
Unit 2. Artistic
Learn how to create a recognizable silhouette, combine different shapes and make focal points. You will learn about complexity, the rules of thirds, rhythm and contrast in shapes, and how to beautifully detail a model.
- Silhouette: how it works, what makes it expressive, and why it's so important in your work.
- Complexity: what it is, how it relates to silhouette, and more
- Shapes: what influences them, how to use them to make an object more attractive, and what shapes there are.
- Points of focus: how to draw the viewer's attention to certain elements and details in your model.
- Detailing is an important part of design. Understand when and how to use it, and how to do it correctly.
Unit 3. Marvelous Designer
Learn how to create fabric textures for models in Marvelous Designer, mix different techniques in hard surface, design cars, and learn how to build a career in game development.
- Marvelous Designer is a program for simulating and creating realistic clothes and everything related to fabrics. Using examples we will study the program's work and find its application in Hard Surface
- Master class: mixing techniques in Hard Surface
- Master class: deep dive into production
- Masterclass: Creating a car
Project Work 2:
- create three sketches of sci-fi crates.
Unit 4. EMP-Bot training project
See the detailed process of creating a scout drone concept from start to finish in Blender. We will also analyze this design.
Thesis:
- make a 3D concept of a drone using any software and piplane of your choice.
